The Conservation Fund selling 3,500-acre lakefront tract

The Conservation Fund, an environmental group that purchased a 3,500-acre tract on Lake Wateree from Greenwood Communities and Resorts, is now selling the tract to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, reports GSABusiness.

Jason Johnson, a spokesman for The Conservation Fund, said the waterfront land in Kershaw and Lancaster counties is destined to become a wildlife management area.

The organization paid $9.18 million for the tract between Columbia and Charlotte.

Johnson, The Conservation Fund’s director in South Carolina, said the land will be sold in phases to theDepartment of Natural Resources. He said a closing on the first phase — the $4.6 million sale of 1,628 acres to the state — is about a month away.
