Legislative Update Regarding Bills Affecting the SC Construction Industry

ABC of the Carolinas Legislative Director Benton Albritton reports on the current status of important legislation pertaining to our industry in the SC Legislature. Please take a moment to look at the updates below:

S 438 – ABC’s anti-PLA legislation moved quickly through the Senate several weeks ago but due to a two-week recess by the House there will be no update until then. We fully expect the House Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee to pass this bill with the help of Chairman Bill Sandifer upon their return.

H 3412 – Members of the Transportation Subcommittee of Senate Finance put together a comprehensive plan to fund road and bridge construction in the state in the form of an amendment to H 3412, which will hopefully be debated on the Senate floor sometime next week. According to the SC Chamber of Commerce, “emphasis was placed on $500 million in general obligation bonds, a variety of additional road related fees (drivers’ licenses, rental cars, alternative fuels fee, truck registration increase), transferring the current vehicle sales tax revenue to highways and indexing the motor fuel user fee to the consumer price index.” Stay tuned for updates on this issue.
