South Carolina: Construction jobs fall 1.3%

GSABusiness reports that construction employment in South Carolina declined by1,100 jobs, or 1.3%, in May compared with April’s totals, according to an analysis of U.S. Department of Labor data by the Associated General Contractors of America.

The construction industry employed about 82,000 South Carolinians in May compared with 83,100 in April, the trade group reported.

However, for the 12-month stretch between May 2013 and May 2014, construction employment in South Carolina increased 2.9% or 2,300 jobs, the analysis showed.

Overall, construction employment remains below peak levels in every state and the District of Columbia, except North Dakota, the association said.
