City of Columbia breaks ground on baseball stadium

CCBE Venue Partners has started work on Spirit Communications Park, the city-owned, $37 million year-round stadium. It is a Construction Management at Risk Services Team consisting of Barton Malow Company, Contract Construction, Inc., Construction Dynamic, Inc., in association with ENVIRO AgScience, Inc.

The stadium will become the home field of a minor league baseball team.The ballpark is intended to hold about 8,500 spectators for baseball and more for other events.

The facility is to be named Spirit Communications Park after a local company that paid $3.5 million to have its name on the stadium for at least 10 years.

Taxpayers are investing $30 million to build the facility.
